Reckless and Distracted Driving
When you are driving and you hear you phone buzz what is your first instinct? Your first thought is to look down at your phone and see why it buzzed. If you have an iPhone in settings you can turn on do not disturb while driving and you will not be tempted to look at your phone because it will not buzz. Your phone will turn this feature on when it senses driving movement. If a person texts while this feature is turned on they will receive a text back that says that you are driving. Android phones have a similar feature that can be used called Driving Mode. Distracted driving has caused many crashes. “At least 1 in 4 of all car crashes involves phone use”. People need to put their phones down and focus on the road. People who are driving also need to not let their passengers in their car distract them from the road. An average car weighs about two tons or 4,000 pounds. Next time your phone buzzes or a passenger is trying to distract you think how much damage could be done with a 4,000 pound vehicle. Children learn to drive by being taught by their parents and observing what they are doing. If a child who is learning to drive sees their parent on their phone while they are driving they will think that they can do it as well. Teens are taught by example and parents are teaching them a bad example when they are using their phone while driving. Distracted driving has caused way too many collisions and needs to be put to a stop. A solution to this tremendous problem is turn your phone off while you are driving or put it in a place where you cannot reach it. Something else that you could do is use do not disturb while driving feature on your phone. If you cannot wait to look at your phone, pullover before you look at it so you are not putting your life or other peoples lives in danger. Let’s put a stop to distracted driving and lower the number of car crashes and people seriously hurt or killed by taking a few easy steps.
