Ways to end distracted and reckless driving
Distracting driving is very dangerous, so many people die from people being distracted while driving. They get distracted by being on their phones or by changing the radio or just by looking at different things while driving. People get distracted while driving by visually taking their eyes off the road, manually taking their hands off the wheel and cognitively taking your mind off of driving which includes falling asleep at the wheel. Distracted driving is one of the main reasons that your attention can be taken away from driving. Sending a text messages, talking on a cell phone, using a navigation system and eating while driving are a few of the most common examples of distracted driving. Any of these distractions can endanger the driver and others. Another distraction is children; if you have your child in the car that can also be a big distraction because they might be crying or might want your attention. Doing your makeup while driving is another distraction and so is changing your clothes while driving. You might be changing because you got out of work or you’re going to work or going on a date and this can cause an accident. Each day in the United States, approximately 9 people are killed and more than 1,000 are injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver. Evidence shows that distracted driving is a serious problem among teen drivers. Reckless drivers are not only people that are on their phones or changing the music, they can also be on drugs or can be drinking or high on cocaine or other drugs. One strategy to prevent distracted driving is to make and enforce laws preventing phones from being used while driving. Individually we can turn off our cell phones or other devices when we get into the car. We can also ask the passenger to answer your phone if it’s important. We all should stop doing things while driving that can distract us because it not only puts our lives at risk, it risks other drivers and pedestrians that we can injure or kill. Others can injure or kill us if they are distracted. If we all work to avoid distracted and reckless driving we will all be safer on the road.
