My whole body is shaking and everything is a huge blur. I’m in a car and the man in the driver’s seat slams the breaks and all I hear is a loud crash and everything goes black. A driver texting crossed over the centerline colliding with our car. I open my eyes to flashing red and blue lights and realize that I’m being wheeled into an ambulance. My head is pounding with pain and I can’t move my legs. The driver of the car is on the ground surrounded by car pieces and lots of blood. People run to him and take him to another ambulance. My hands are shaking and I can feel the tears in my eyes start to form. I start screaming and crying. I am only 16 years old and that man is my father. The room goes black again and when I open my eyes, I’m In the hospital room, with a nurse taking my blood pressure. My head is still pounding and everything comes rushing back to me. My heart is racing when I remember my dad lying on the ground, at the side of the road. “Nurse, where is my dad?” She avoids looking at me, but I see the sorrow on her face giving me all the answers I need. “Please. I need to see him” I walk to the door of my father’s room and stare at my dad lying motionless on the bed, only machines keeping him alive. I run over grabbing hold of his hand. “Dad, can you hear me? it’s me, your son.” “Please wake up. I can’t lose you.”     My hand is shaking as I tighten my grip on his, not wanting to let him go. My heart is beating out of my chest and I am ready to explode and scream, but instead, I start crying. I know that this is goodbye but I’m not ready to let him go. I remember all the good memories of my dad. He is my only friend and has always been there for me. I fall to the ground shaking not able to stand anymore. I sit there choking back tears as I watch my dad take his last breath. Listening to that single beep tears my heart out. I’ll never be able to hear his stupid dad jokes that always made me smile or hear him tell me he loves me every night before bed. I lost my father due to a careless action of a driver distracted by a phone.
