It’s Okay to Say No

“Want to come with us?” I already know that it’s illegal for him to take more than one of us with him. “No, you guys can just bring me back a coffee.” “It’s only a few minutes away.” I already know that my parents won’t let me ride with any teenager driving. “No, that’s okay, my parents wouldn’t let me go anyway.” “It’s not like they have to know.” I already know that I would just be an extra distraction. I already know why it’s illegal for a teenager to drive more than one other teen at his age. Ialready know the horrific statistics. “No, really, I’ll stay here.” “Alright, then, we’ll see you later.” I already know I’ve made the right decision. I already know that it’s okay to say no.

This is a retelling of a conversation I had with my friends recently and the thoughts that were running through my head. I want other teenagers like me to realize that it’s always safer and always okay to tell someone that you can’t be driving with them.
