The Text Can Wait

Brittany M

Growing up, I have been constantly exposed to commercials, PSAs, public speakers, and short films that have warned people about the dangers of reckless driving. However, no matter how many times the message is hammered into our brains, there are still a large amount of individuals who don’t listen. Texting, eating, making phone calls, doing makeup, and even playing around with the radio is a safety hazard. “I do it all the time, it’s fine”, “I can multitask”, or “It’s just a quick text” are just some of the popular excuses used. My video focuses on how people are reminded to do the right thing, but they don’t because nothing bad has ever happened in response to their foolish actions. Drivers get too comfortable but there could come a day when they aren’t as lucky as they’ve been. Driving isn’t a game, and being behind the wheel is a huge responsibility. In the few seconds you aren’t paying attention to the road, so much could happen. Your actions don’t only affect you but they also influence the surrounding people that are also on the road at the time. Don’t let an accident be a wake up call because by then it could be too late. (No texting and driving was involved in the making of this video. Recordings were shot in the driveway in a parked car. The music and sound effects used are not copyrighted.)
