Glance What is a Glance? A brief or hurried look. A quick gaze A peek or a glimpse One Glance to look at “your boy” who’s clowning you in the back seat One Glance to check to make sure your hair or make up is still “on fleek” One Glance to turn up your music because that new Kendrick Lamar track is on One Glance to argue with your sister or brother about who has dishes tonight One Glance to see who text you One Glance to respond One Glance to post a pic on snapchat One Glance to look at who responded to your latest “Tweet” One Glance to bite a chunk out of your pizza because “you’re starving” One Glance as you close your eye because you hung out too late One Glance is no big Deal, Right WRONG!!! All it takes is One Glance, five seconds to drive the length of a football field without looking at the road. One Glance to Crash! Head on Rear in Side swipe Roll over Running off the road 25% of all crashes involve some form of driver distraction A person glancing away from the road. Believe me life can change in a Glance Bad choices can have dire consequences A Glance can cause Life-altering scars A Glance can bring Criminal Punishments A Glance can cost you in Tickets, Fines and/or Fees A Glance can cost your Parents A Glance can cause you to pay Higher Insurance Premiums A Glance can cause your Driving Privileges to be revoked A Glance can cost you your freedom The worst part is statistic like these from the CDC in 2016 noting that 2,333 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed in motor vehicle crashes. That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries. One Glance is not worth your future so STAY WOKE!!!

Description

I wrote this piece because most accidents occur because a person looks away or is distracted for a few seconds. To often we as teens let our attention be drawn elsewhere without thinking much about it. But because the results can be so devastating, I thought it was important to address. I hope it will make someone think before they look away. This hope motivated me to focus on the cost of those choices. That’s why I chose to create a piece about what can happen in a Glance and the need for us to understand the importance of staying focused whenever we are driving.
