Technology plays a huge role in today’s society. Technology varies from computers, tablets, ipads , to cell phones. Cell Phones is the most technology people use today especially teens. Teens use their phone everywhere they go even when they are driving which can lead to many bad things such as deaths, tickets, etc. “ No person should suffer the tragedy of losing someone as a result of drunk, drugged, or distracted driving, but for far too long the danger of impaired driving has robbed people of the comfort of knowing that when they or a loved one leaves home they will return safely. Impaired driving puts drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk, and each year it claims the lives of thousands of Americans”. This quote is President Obama about the severity of teens reckless behavior when it comes to teens texting and driving.Teens need to stop texting and driving and we have to find ways to prevent it. The definition of texting and driving is when a person behind a motor running vehicle is holding a cellular device to send a message or create a message to someone. According to California Department of Motor Vehicles , The Wireless Communications Device Law states no driver in California may write, send, or read text messages while behind the wheel. However teens still do text and drive. Most likely, at this point you are probably thinking how do we stop or prevent this issue from continuing to happen? Well we have to take steps …. The first step we can take is according to “4 Ways to Stop Texting While Driving Before It Starts” . The first step is to silence your phone while driving in order to avoid temptations. Imagine driving and you hear a ding … your first thought is to look and see what it is whether its a notification or a text message or etc. Secondly, lock your phone with a screensaver or lock screen that is a reminder which is like self discipline not to text and drive. So whenever you pick up your phone you are reminded and instantly put it down. Thirdly, sometimes self discipline is hard so another technique is to keep the phone out of sight out of mind. Put your phone in the glove department or the trunk or something. Lastly, using distracted technology to prevent technology. If prevention seems to fail for whatever reason, awareness is another technique.Awareness such as billboards, radio announcements and even classes. When driving down the roads people usually look at stuff that grabs their attention. So think if you were driving on the highway and you seen a billboard that had a mangled car and the driver was dead and a phone was lying in the drivers hand and the sign read “Don’t do it”. How would you feel, What would you think? . Some people it would them affect them others amy need a stronger message or another way to get the message across to them because everyone is different. So think about turning on your radio and hear a screeching noise and hearing a loud BOOM! And someone says that is your loved one who has just died from texting and driving or friend. Wouldn’t that hit you deep and make you think like damn that just really happen? . Even put yourself having to take a class where you learn about the severity of texting and driving not just someone telling you but you learning hands on. In 2017, ABC 10 news hosted event in Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The event was about texting and driving and the severity to it. ABC had 3 dodge charger cars they had teens drive and have them stay in between the cones and they drove for about 5-7 minutes then they ahd teens pull at their phone and try to perform the same task. They couldn’t multitask as they think they could. The event was to bring awareness to teens texting and driving. In conclusion, teens text and drive and know that the severity of their reckless behavior.Teens need to stop texting and driving and we have to find ways to prevent it.
