Danger Ahead: Distracted Drivers Everywhere
Distracted driving is often associated with texting, but that is not always the case. Distracted driving is a wide range of different actions that are done while driving. Some of these things could include eating/drinking, texting, talking on the phone, listening to music, grabbing an object off the floorboard, and many more things. There is not a way to completely stop people from doing these things, but awareness can be raised. By having commercials on television and the radio, most of the population of the United States would be aware of the dangers distracted driving can cause. As a victim of distracted driving, I attempt to be the best driver possible. Sometimes it’s more difficult than you think. A song you don’t like on the radio that you want to change, a bag falling off the passenger seat that you just HAVE to pick up, or maybe you need to look at your phone super quickly to see your latest notification, all of these things could give you a chance to take your eyes off the road and cause a catastrophe. So, before you change the station or check your phone, think about the number lives you are putting in danger including yourself. You don’t want to be part of the 49% of people that cause deaths each day. Always be careful and think before you act.
Distracted drivers can’t all be stopped, but they can be called out and punished.
