90 on the I-95 It’s real when it gets dangerous A thousand counts of guilt on my conscious The lights shine green and red and back and forth Turn the music up I’m just trying to do the dash, hope I don’t crash Under pressure from these cars in the back Blinding red blurs across my face The death of my friends are on my mind It’s not about the destination but about the journey Distracted driving injures about 391,000 people and killed 3,477 people were killed in 2017 Imagine all the people dying in 2018 when technology is even more distracting with all the additional technology in the cars besides just cell phones
Distracted driving injures about 391,000 people and killed 3,477 people were killed in 2017. Imagine all the people dying in 2018 when technology is of the radio in our car distracts us, our smart phone can obtain information from internet access. This poem represents the dangers with guilt, rushing to get to your destination, and especially who is hurt when the driver is distracted. The line, I’m just trying to do the dash, hope I don’t crash, eludes to the digital dashboard that expensive cars have and the line means to go get out quick enough without crashing. It is said in the song, Horses by PNB Rock. The statistics are from the DMV website: https://www.dmv.org/articles/death-by-text-message-stats-show-how-technology-is-killing-us/
