Keep your Eyes open It only takes a second Exhausted and Distracted and Text messages and Phone calls and Lunch and Then dashboard and windshield Keep your Eyes open It only takes a second Three ton car versus one hundred pound girl Tires screeching and Blurred vision and Heaving breathing and Pedestrians screaming and Ambulance lights gleaming Keep your Eyes open It only takes a second Mind focused and Well rested and Phone silenced and Lunch eaten Car and girl do not meet You kept your Eyes Open The girl is still living
When walking in my neighborhood, I notice a lot of children playing on the road and alleyways. They are able to do that because it is a quiet neighborhood with little to no cars passing by. The inspiration of this poem stem from how the children do not notice others around them and how a distracted driver can be very dangerous in these types of situations. Small changes like turning your phone off while driving and sleeping earlier can save a person’s life.
