POEM: I wish I was Born in the Nineties
I wish I was born in the nineties In the nineties, Driving wasn’t a multi-task job The radio didn’t have to be changed that much because the music was timeless Your phone couldn’t keep your eyes off the road because it was at home Plugged in I probably wouldn’t have been in a car crash two years ago because the driver would have seen the red light in front of her In front of my mother and I When your phone goes off Think of the person who it might be And whether the person would like to hear your voice Or see your smile When you want to put makeup on, Think of your mother Who thinks you’re beautiful no matter what And would much rather you be alive with color, Than a white chalk outline on the floor
Reckless driving hits home with my sister. She is a nineties girl, and I used that as a way to reason with her why reckless driving is not ok. The solution to not getting distracted is realizing that you are going to affect other people, not just you. Many of us are blessed with people surrounding us, and we can’t let them down.
